Sunday School Picnic
This year's Sunday School Picnic and Worship Service in the Park was a fabulous success. Approximately 150 people from the church, their friends, family and other acquaintances swarmed into a local park for worship, food, fun, contests, and games. We were especially honored to have Pastor Exum's father and mother in attendance.
The set-up crew arrived bright and early to get all the tents, tables, and chairs ready for the coming events. Bill Mentser fired up the barbecue and before long the fragrance of tri-tip and chicken was wafting through the park.
After a short song service, Pastor Exum preached a message on Heaven to the congregation spread out under tents on folding chairs, lawn and camping chairs, blankets, or standing along the edges. Then it was time to eat the incredible spread of food.
When everyone had their fill, the kids ran off to enjoy the jump house, petting zoo, and pony rides. Soon after, games and competitions began. A highlight of each years' picnic is the watermelon eating contest. The kids were up first with girls' and boy's winners. Then, the ladies' dove in with vigor where Ruby won first place. The men always are up for the challenge to try to beat the past 2 year's running champion - Robert Exum. Dispite their nobel efforts, Robert once again took first place.
There were bag races and tug of war. They decided to do the "older" men versus the "younger" men. The younger men didn't hold any weight (literally) against the older men. But everyone was in good spirits and had a lot of fun.
Throughout the afternoon, everyone enjoyed snow cones and cotton candy - especially the kids which was appropriate since this event was specifically geared toward the Sunday School aged children in the community. But regardless of age, everyone had an equal amount of energy and fun.
A special thanks to our Pastor's Wife, Kim Exum, and her crew for all her had work to make this event a success. We're all looking forward to next year's!
